The largest wildlife sanctuary of Sri Lanka is located with one of the highest leopard densities in the world. The Yala National Park is home to many animals such as leopards, elephants, wild boars, large water monitors, and monkeys to name a few. Exotic birds such as pelicans, parrots, eagles, herons, ibises and sandpipers can also be seen in the park. Aside from this sanctuary, Yala offers many cultural and religious attractions with temples, kovils and carved rocks. The wild coastline that runs around Yala is also equally as exciting as the wildlife in the city. There is a variety of beach activities and water sports accessible to people. Apart from the magnificent animals that can be seen here through safaris, visitors are able to enjoy outdoor activities in both the sea and land while visiting some of the historical locations in the region as well.
